AFP issues new guidance to fleets on drink and drug-driving

12 November 2024

Data from the Department for Transport shows both drink and drug-driving are growing issues. The number of vehicle collisions linked to drug-driving has risen by 170% in less than a decade, while drink-driving deaths are at their highest level in 14 years.

The Association of Fleet Professionals’ (AFP) Risk, Compliance and Health Committee has created a document for members that addresses the need for a drink and drug-driving policy, key content to include, rules for grey fleet drivers, and the importance of recognising that prescription and over-the-counter drugs, as well as illegal substances, can impact drivers behind the wheel.

Driver Hire Training’s online Driver CPC training module, Alcohol and Drugs Awareness, is suitable for any staff member.

It highlights how alcohol and drugs can enter the body and their effects. While most drivers are aware that drinking alcohol or taking certain drugs affects their ability to operate a vehicle, many are unaware of the impact on cognitive responses and the serious consequences of being caught with these substances in their system when behind the wheel.

Visit the module page for further information, or give a member of our friendly team a call on 0808 178 9977 if you’d like to discuss training for yourself or employees.
