Fines for Drivers’ Hours and Tachograph offences cost drivers over £1.4m in 2016/17. Individually, well over 6,500 penalty notices were handed out by the DVSA. All of which suggests that there are plenty of drivers who’d benefit from some Drivers’ Hours and Tachograph revision. And there’s an easy way to do this whilst fulfilling another road transport industry requirement – your annual Driver CPC training.
“Booking yourself onto a Driver CPC course covering Drivers’ Hours and Tachographs makes sense,” says John Keelan-Edwards, Driver Hire’s Risk Management and Group Technology Director. “We offer separate 3.5-hour courses on both. In total, we offer 20 different Driver CPC courses, but Drivers’ Hours continues to be our most popular.”
Keeping up to date with your Driver CPC training schedule is becoming increasingly important. All HGV drivers must complete 35 hours of periodic training every five years. Drivers who passed their HGV test prior to September 2009 must complete their second block of training by September 2019.
“For that set of drivers it makes sense to get on with training now to avoid a last-minute rush as the deadline approaches,” John continues. “And if it saves a penalty notice – it’s time and money well spent.”
