A Class 1 driver is qualified to drive a truck over 3,500kg (C) with a trailer over 750kg (+E).
A Category C+E vehicle has a trailer that detaches and is frequently referred to as an artic (articulated lorry), Class 1 or an HGV.
By gaining your HGV Class 1 (CE) licence, you’ll be able to drive the largest vehicles in the logistics industry, weighing up to 44 tonnes and generally used for national and long-haul deliveries. The vehicle may also be in a drawbar configuration.

Costs will vary depending on where you do your training. We can provide all this information when you call us or submit an enquiry form. Remember, you can spread the cost of licence acquisition training through our Finance offering.
Once you have your licence, you will need to undergo a medical examination every 5 years and undertake 35 hours’ periodic Driver CPC training in order to keep your DQC up to date. This is standard for any HGV driver. Find out more about Driver CPC.
