Training Facilities

Driver Hire Croydon’s Driver CPC training takes place at our Croydon office where we have a dedicated training room. The office is in the Capital Business Centre, Carlton Road, South Croydon CR2 0BS. We cover a wide geographical area including CR, SM and SW postcodes. So, depending on where you’re based if you’re happy to travel, we’re happy to do the training.

Of course, if you’re an employer, and would find it more convenient to run training courses at your depot – and have suitable facilities – we can do that too.

Directions & Parking

Our own training facility has plenty of free parking. We are 5 miles from A23 to M23 and 12 from M25, 30 minutes from Gatwick airport and 55 mins from Heathrow. If you prefer to let the train take the strain our training centre is based within walking distance of Sanderstead, South Croydon and East Croydon Station. Local bus routes run by.

Our training centre has tea and coffee making facilities. However, we don’t provide food. The good news is that ‘Eats’, an excellent and highly recommended cafe, is on site. Promising flavoursome home-cooked food, ‘Eats’ offers a great selection of dishes including daily specials, scrumptious sarnies, healthy salads or, if you fancy something more substantial, a Neapolitan-style house lasagne. Competitively priced, a sandwich will cost you £3, salads and hot meals, £4.50.

Our Trainer

You’ll be hard-pressed to find anyone with more Driver CPC training experience than, Dawn Moss. You see Dawn delivered Driver Hire’s first-ever Driver CPC training course – not just here in Croydon – we mean nationally, across the whole of our nationwide network.

That was back in 2010. In 2017, Dawn continues to achieve excellent post-course feedback ratings. Her ability to deliver highly relevant Driver CPC courses is based on a wealth of experience. She’s been in the Driver Hire network for over ten years, initially working at our  Ashford/Canterbury offices where she cut her training teeth delivering Fuel Efficient Driving courses. Now part of the Croydon team, Dawn will very quickly tell you that delivering Driver CPC training is the best part of her job.

Of course, Dawn is also very aware that Driver CPC training may not be the most favourite part of the job for many of the drivers who attend her courses. What she has very definitely learnt over the past seven years of Driver CPC training is that, for the most part, it isn’t about trying to teach drivers new skills. She regards Driver CPC as refresher courses – an opportunity to dust down and brush up on skills and knowledge that have been acquired over the years in the industry. That’s her starting point.

So, for instance, the course she’s delivering is a module on Drivers’ Hours, she’s expecting that a training room full of professional drivers should know all the answers. Dawn believes in the value of Driver CPC training and enjoys the challenge of delivering familiar information in a way that’s entertaining, accessible and useful.

Dawn is quite used to being a female working in the road transport industry – a predominantly male-dominated world. She’s had plenty of practice; before joining Driver Hire Dawn worked in construction. Going back further, her father was in the Armed Forces and she was brought up in a family of rugby players. So she’s quite used to the occasional burst of strong language!

And, over the past seven years, what has become her favourite Driver CPC course? As a qualified first aider since the age of 12, that’s easy. It has to be Driver Hire’s First Aid module. “Whilst all our courses are relevant to drivers’ day-to-day work, learning basic First Aid skills could actually save someone’s life. I think that’s pretty amazing,” says Dawn.

Dawn adds that the most popular courses for clients and drivers continue to be ‘EU Driver Hours’ Rules’, ‘Digital Tachographs’ and ‘Fuel Efficient Driving’
