This course has been developed specifically for drivers of vans up to 3.5 tonnes. Many of these drivers have received very little training on the differences between driving a car and operating a van.
The aim of the course is to give delegates a better level of knowledge and skill, to enable them to operate the vehicle safely and with full legal compliance, especially in respect to speed, loading, manoeuvring and parking.
This half day course will comprise of theory and practical sessions. The DriveWise trainer will discuss a variety of van related topics aiming to increase the delegates’ knowledge of the differences between driving a car and a van.

The practical training aims to help improve the delegates’ skills when driving a larger vehicle. The focus will be on safety, whether manoeuvring at low speeds in a parking area or out on the road interacting with other road users. Where applicable, there will also be a practical session on safe loading techniques.
Drivers will be assessed in their ability to judge space when passing parked vehicles, for parking safely, vehicle sympathy and reversing under full control.
Personal Plan – The DriveWise coach will set improvement goals during the post-training feedback session to give the delegate targets to reduce their exposure to risk and improve their ability to drive larger vehicles safely.
